When Gregory Edwards, DVM, Theresa Fedderke, DVM, Douglas Burgei, DVM and Gretchen Meienburg, Animal Health Technician founded Pampered Pets Bed & Biscuits in Napoleon, Ohio in 2003, they weren’t starting from scratch — they were applying more than 150 combined years of veterinary medicine and pet care experience to an industry they knew better than anyone. Recognizing a growing demand for premium pet care in their region, the ownership group made a deliberate move into the pet resort sector and quickly established a reputation for service excellence.

Growing with Purpose

Two years after opening Napoleon, the group identified a complementary opportunity in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Rather than simply replicating their model, they expanded strategically — entering a second distinct market while leveraging the operational systems and best practices already refined at their first location. The result was a two-facility platform with geographic diversification, shared efficiencies, and differentiated service offerings tailored to each community.

The Napoleon location built out a full-service grooming salon, while Fort Wayne added bathing services alongside boarding and daycare — giving each facility its own identity while maintaining a unified standard of care. Together, the two locations grew into a highly successful platform, marked by strong profitability and pricing power in both markets.

Equally significant was how the ownership group built the business to operate. Through intentional management development and operational systematization, they cultivated tenured, capable teams at each location — creating a genuinely absentee-owner structure where service quality and day-to-day performance were never dependent on owner involvement.

After more than two decades of ownership, the group knew it was time to transition — but navigating the sale of a multi-location business was a different challenge than anything they had faced before.
